Have you ever walked into a home and thought to yourself “Wow, I wish my house looked like this?” Well, when you live at The Residence, you can thank Maria Carreon for making this wish come true. A project the size of The Residence required a team that could transform a building into the best place to live in Kamloops. As lead interior designer, Maria brought with her a decade of experience working at Sticks and Stones Design Group in Kelowna, BC.
In addition to boasting a Bachelor Degree in Interior design, Maria also holds a certificate for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. “The environment is very important to me and I strive to select finishes that are sustainable such as utilizing recycled materials and low volatile organic compounds (VOCs)” says Maria.
Her design influence can be seen in the furniture, art and accessories throughout the suites and common areas. “The lobby, reception and lounge have a grand ambience with coffered ceilings and a large fireplace with millwork on either side that will be decorated with accessories. The furniture will be comfortable with neutral fabrics and a splashes of colour throughout” says Maria.
The Sticks + Stones team were also responsible for designing all of the beautiful custom millwork throughout the building including the wine bar, reception area, fireplace, ceiling details, theater room, and the craftsmen’s workshop.
Traditional wood tones and soft, muted colour palettes help define a comfortable yet modern space throughout The Residence, but attention to important details is what matters most for Maria. “My vision was to create a space that was warm and inviting…to make The Residence not only look but feel like home” says Maria. “The rooms are spacious and bright, with the entry to each suite emphasized with warm wood maple panels” she added.
Maria attributes the success of the space to a true team effort. “I would have to say this was definitely a team effort within the Sticks and Stones office working closely with the architects and developers of this building. Being a part of this project has been one of my career highlights” says Maria.
When asked what feature is she most excited about at The Residence, Maria found it difficult to choose just one. “I am particularly excited about seeing the Hair Salon and Spa completed. This space is going to give the residents a relaxing yet luxurious experience. The Wine Bar is also another great feature, with the large banquette seating, a great area to gather and socialize.” she said.
Overall Maria hopes members of The Residence will feel that their home extends past their suite’s front door and enjoy and use all of the amenity areas in the building as an extension of their suites. “I hope that residents will love the space and enjoy it as it was meant to be”.
